Federal League Games April 9th
Philadelphia, New York and Pittsburgh all managed easy wins in their series openers. Don Sutton surprised a lot of spectators with his solid performance over a good Washington team, but it was Burleigh Grimes who turned in the performance of the day for New York. Mule Suttles had three hits and his third home run of the year to lead the Knights to a tie for first in the Federal League standings. The other first place team, Philadelphia, threw newly acquired starter Leroy Matlock (see trades below), who notched his second win of the season.
