The Continental League President's office announced that it had approved the trade of Jim Palmer from the Detroit Model Ts to the Nashville Commodores in exchange of Pud Galvin.
While Palmer has slightly better looking numbers, Galvin has thrown back to back shutouts in his last two starts, one of which was against Detroit.

In a dramatic ending, the New York Knights staged a comeback win over the
Philadelphia Liberty by the count of 7 to 6.
New York had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base
hits. Jim Bottomley got things going when he doubled. Yogi Berra stepped up
to the plate and he popped a two-run clout over the fence. Two outs later
Wee Willie Keeler came to the plate and drew a walk. Home Run Baker came up
and he tripled. Although they lost, Philadelphia did out-hit New York 14 to
9.
The winning pitcher was Carl Mays(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1/3 of an
inning. The loss was charged to Ted Lyons(1-3) in relief. He surrendered 3
runs and 4 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

In a game for the baseball purist, Smokey Joe Williams(4-1) and Dick
Redding(3-4) squared off in a tense pitching duel, Washington Senators
finally emerged victorious over Boston Pilgrims, 3 to 1.
Washington jumped on top of Boston in the 2nd inning plating an isolated run
on 2 hits. For the game Washington out-hit Boston 9 to 6.
Lefty Grove earned the save, his 1st.

Catcher Roy Campanella hit 2 doubles at Forbes Field where the Pittsburgh
Grays beat the New Orleans Jazz Kings 3 to 1.
New Orleans was unable to claim the lead after Pittsburgh went ahead in the
bottom of the 3rd inning scoring one runner. That scoring would be all that
was needed. New Orleans went down quietly in the 9th.
Don Sutton(4-1) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Sutton
got help from Rube Foster who earned his 2nd save. Early Wynn(2-1) suffered
the loss.
With this win, Pittsburgh has a 18-13 record. They have been 7-3 lately.
With this loss, New Orleans has a 6-4 record of late, 16-15 overall.

Alejandro Oms had 3 base hits and Catfish Hunter allowed Cincinnati's manager
to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Redland Field as the
Cincinnati Beergardeners beat the Detroit Model Ts 4 to 3.
Cincinnati tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning when they had 3 base
hits. They ended up being the winning runs. Detroit went down without a
fight in the 9th.
The victory was credited to Hunter(4-1) who went the distance, allowing 3
runs. The losing pitcher was Jesse Haines(4-1) in relief.

Harry Heilmann had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Chicago White Bears beat the
Kansas City Cattle Barons by a score of 5 to 3.
Chicago drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when
they tallied 3 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided by Heilmann who
made the crowd happy when he slapped a single plating two runs. Kansas City
made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs
across.
The victory was credited to Max Manning(2-5) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 3 runs. Jack Chesbro earned the save, his 3rd. Robin Roberts(3-5)
ended up with the loss. He allowed Chicago 3 runs in 2 innings of work.
ST. LOUIS AT NASHVILLE

Pud Galvin blanked St. Louis in a very well-pitched complete game as the
Nashville Commodores defeated the St. Louis River Captains 4 to 0 at Martin
Park.
Galvin(3-3) earned his pay with a solid performance for Nashville. He allowed
9 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 2.60 to 2.17. After
the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.
Cy Young(2-3) was charged with the loss. He was knocked around by Nashville,
allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.
