Detroit returned to its winning ways with a smashing opening against the visiting Commodores. Jim Palmer and Charlie Gehringer welcomed the visitors from Nashville with a 2 run complete game and a grand slam respectively. Chuck Klein doubled and homered as KC won their game over the Beergardners. Whitey Ford picked up the win in relief. Finally, the River Boats cruised 6-1 in Chicago. Hilton Smith was given his first start of the year, and responded with a complete game win, his only run against coming on a fluke home run after left fielder Willie McCovey collided with center fielder Turkey Stearns.

The Detroit Model Ts cruised to a 7 to 2 victory over the Nashville Commodores
at Navin Field.
Charlie Gehringer made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He doubled
in the 5th inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 8th
inning. Detroit had 11 hits for the game and Nashville had 8.
Jim Palmer(3-0) went 8 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Red Faber(2-2)
suffered the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 4 hits in 4 innings.

The Kansas City Cattle Barons defeated the Cincinnati Beergardeners by a score
of 6 to 3 at Redland Field.
In the 7th inning Kansas City scored 3 runs when they had 3 base hits. Buck
Leonard led off and he drew a walk. Buck Ewing followed and he doubled.
Hughie Jennings then ripped a base-knock. Ray Dandridge was up next and he
stroked a single. Luke Appling stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly.
Kansas City rapped out 10 hits for the night.
The victory was credited to Whitey Ford(2-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Rollie Fingers was credited with his 5th save. The loss was charged to
Amos Rusie(0-3).
The Kansas City ballclub's record now stands at 11-7. With the loss,
Cincinnati has a record of 6-4 lately, 7-11 overall.

Hilton Smith went the distance and third baseman Candy Jim Taylor jacked one
out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI at Schorling Park as the St. Louis River
Captains beat the Chicago White Bears 6 to 1.
Taylor had a big evening at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd
inning, delivered a base-hit in the 5th inning and doubled plating a run in
the 6th inning. St. Louis totaled 7 hits on the night.
The victory went to Smith(1-1) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The
losing pitcher was Max Manning(0-4). He served up 3 gopher balls in 7
innings.
