The Chicago White Bears won a dramatic contest against the visiting River Captains, 1-0. All day, Phil Cockrell and Mickey Welch, taking advantage of a cold, wet April day in Chicago held the other team scoreless until two outs in the 9th. White Bears' center fielder Joe DiMaggio worked a walk. Geroge Brett then rapped a gapper to left field and the speedy DiMaggio, running with the pitch, scored from first to end the contest. Detroit held on to win 2-1, but lost Bob Lemon to the 15 day disabled list, where he joins starting 3rd baseman Mike Schmidt. Finally, Cincinnati got off to a fast start at home and held on to beat KC, 6-3.
