Trade Notice
The office of the Continental League President announced that the St. Louis River Captains have arranged to trade "Superman" Pennington to the Cincinnati Beergardners for George Kell.

In a close game the Pittsburgh Grays got by the Philadelphia Liberty by the
score of 4 to 2.
Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning. The big moment was provided by
Willard Brown who excited the crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the
fence. Philadelphia had 10 hits in the game while Pittsburgh had 7, but
Pittsburgh had the more timely hits.
The victory went to Eddie Plank(2-2) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Al Spalding got the save, his 4th. Tom Seaver(0-1) was hit with the
loss.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Pittsburgh's manager said after the game. 'Plank did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'

Pete Alexander pitched a complete game at Dodger Stadium where the New Orleans
Jazz Kings beat the Washington Senators 4 to 3.
In the bottom of the 6th inning New Orleans scored 2 runs when they had 4 base
hits. Earl Averill got things going when he lined a single. Jackie Robinson
stepped into the batter's box and he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run. Paul Waner then laced a one-base hit. Freddy Lindstrom came up
and he grounded into a double play. Roger Bresnahan stepped into the box and
delivered a base-hit. Washington threatened in the 9th but New Orleans was
able to put down the rally.
Alexander(4-2) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Rube Currie(2-2)
ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 5 hits and
no walks.

Willie Mays cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston Pilgrims outscored
the New York Knights 9 to 2.
Mays enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning.
Boston had 15 hits for the night while New York had 5.
Eppa Rixey(3-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Tim
Keefe(3-4) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 3 and 2/3 innings of
work.

Carlton Fisk had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Pud Galvin pitched a 3 hit shutout
as the Nashville Commodores defeated the Detroit Model Ts 3 to 0 at Martin
Park.
Galvin(2-3) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Detroit
hitters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering
his ERA from 3.25 to 2.60. Detroit was retired without difficulty in the
9th.
Big Bill Foster(5-1) was hit with the loss. Galvin was obviously very pleased
with his performance in the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those
games where everything worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched
another two or three innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time
out!'
KANSAS CITY AT ST. LOUIS

Cy Young pitched a complete game as the St. Louis River Captains topped the
Kansas City Cattle Barons by a score of 3 to 2 at Terrapin Park.
Young(2-2) pitched well for St. Louis in their victory. He was reached for 9
hits and no walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 5.08 to 4.50.
Although they lost, Kansas City did out-hit St. Louis 9 to 6.
Robin Roberts(3-3) was the loser. He was knocked around pretty good, giving
up 3 runs in 2 innings.
CINCINNATI AT CHICAGO

Second baseman Rogers Hornsby collected 3 extra-base hits and had 2 RBI and
Catfish Hunter pitched a 2 hit shutout as the Cincinnati Beergardeners topped
the Chicago White Bears by a score of 7 to 0 at Schorling Park.
Hunter(3-1) was simply too much for the Chicago batters. He gave up just 2
hits and 5 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 4.09 to 3.21. Cincinnati
managed 17 hits in their victory.
Mickey Welch(1-1) was the losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many
baserunners giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.

The Continental League President's Office announced today that the Cincinnati Beergardners had arranged to trade Orlando Cepeda to the Nashville Commodores for Carl Yastrzemski.

Walter Johnson completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Philadelphia Liberty defeated the Pittsburgh Grays by the score of 6 to 1 at
Forbes Field.
Pittsburgh was unable to claim the lead after Philadelphia went ahead in the
top of the 7th inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits. Philadelphia had
13 hits for the night.
The win went to Johnson(4-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. The loss was
charged to Bill Byrd(3-3). He pitched 7 innings allowing 8 hits and 2 walks.

One run was the difference at Dodger Stadium as the New Orleans Jazz Kings
defeated the Washington Senators in 10 innings 2 to 1.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. New Orleans came out on
top in the 10th inning. Louis Santop lined a single. Freddy Lindstrom came
to the plate and stroked a one-base hit. Roger Bresnahan then laid down a
sacrifice bunt. Neil Robinson followed and he was walked intentionally to
load the bases. Goose Goslin stepped into the box and smacked a single
giving New Orleans the victory as 46,652 happy fans celebrated wildly. New
Orleans out-hit Washington for the game, 10 hits to 3.
Dave Brown(2-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. The losing pitcher
was Chief Bender(0-2) in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 3
hits and 1 walk.

Frank Robinson had 2 base hits as the New York Knights beat the Boston
Pilgrims by a score of 5 to 4.
Ferguson Jenkins(2-4) got the win but did not look spectacular. He gave up 4
runs, 13 hits and 1 walk in 6 and 1/3 innings. Boston threatened in the 9th
but their rally came up short.
Three Finger Brown was credited with his 3rd save. Sam Streeter(3-2) was hit
with the loss in relief. 'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Boston's manager
'but it's losing the close ones that really hurt.'

John Beckwith smashed 2 homeruns at Martin Park as the Detroit Model Ts beat
the Nashville Commodores by the count of 7 to 4.
The Nashville fans didn't appreciate the big day Beckwith had. He smashed a
solo-shot out of the park in the 1st inning, cracked a solo homerun in the
3rd inning and stroked a single in the 4th inning. Both teams finished the
game with 9 hits.
Addie Joss(3-0) went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Jesse
Haines earned the save, his 3rd. Red Faber(2-3) was the losing pitcher. He
gave up 5 runs in 6 innings and saw his ERA jump from 2.61 to 2.92.
The winning ways continue for Detroit. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. Nashville can't seem to snap out of their recent 'funk'. Now
they have a miserable 1-9 record over the last couple weeks.

The Kansas City Cattle Barons defeated the St. Louis River Captains by a score
of 5 to 2 at Terrapin Park.
Kansas City scored the decisive runs in a big top of the 9th inning with 3
runs using 3 hits. Sam Rice led off and he banged out a single. Ray
Dandridge got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Chuck Klein then
doubled. Bid McPhee was up next and he lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run. Herb Pennock(1-0) got help from Rollie Fingers who pitched
great and earned his 8th save.
Bill Holland(2-2) was tagged with the loss. With this win, Kansas City has a
16-10 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With the loss, St. Louis has a
record of 6-4 lately, 11-15 overall.
CINCINNATI AT CHICAGO

Rusie(1-3) gave Cincinnati a solid outing. He gave up just 7 hits and 1 walk
in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 3.16. Cincinnati finished with 9 hits in
the victory.
Max Manning(1-5) took the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.
