In a close game the Pittsburgh Grays got by the Philadelphia Liberty by the
score of 4 to 2.
Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the 2nd inning. The big moment was provided by
Willard Brown who excited the crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the
fence. Philadelphia had 10 hits in the game while Pittsburgh had 7, but
Pittsburgh had the more timely hits.
The victory went to Eddie Plank(2-2) who went 7 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Al Spalding got the save, his 4th. Tom Seaver(0-1) was hit with the
loss.
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Pittsburgh's manager said after the game. 'Plank did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'

Pete Alexander pitched a complete game at Dodger Stadium where the New Orleans
Jazz Kings beat the Washington Senators 4 to 3.
In the bottom of the 6th inning New Orleans scored 2 runs when they had 4 base
hits. Earl Averill got things going when he lined a single. Jackie Robinson
stepped into the batter's box and he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run. Paul Waner then laced a one-base hit. Freddy Lindstrom came up
and he grounded into a double play. Roger Bresnahan stepped into the box and
delivered a base-hit. Washington threatened in the 9th but New Orleans was
able to put down the rally.
Alexander(4-2) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Rube Currie(2-2)
ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 5 hits and
no walks.

Willie Mays cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Boston Pilgrims outscored
the New York Knights 9 to 2.
Mays enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He lost the ball over the fence for
three runs in the 3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer in the 4th inning.
Boston had 15 hits for the night while New York had 5.
Eppa Rixey(3-2) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Tim
Keefe(3-4) took the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 3 and 2/3 innings of
work.
