Hugh Duffy collected 2 extra-base hits and had 4 RBI and Big Bill Foster
allowed Detroit's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the
Detroit Model Ts defeated the St. Louis River Captains by a score of 10 to 1
at Terrapin Park.

Duffy provided much of the offense. He doubled scoring two baserunners in the
4th inning and tripled plating two runs in the 8th inning. Detroit had 10
hits for the afternoon.

Foster(6-1) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Cy Young(2-4)
took the loss. He pitched 5 innings giving up 5 hits and 3 walks.

Leon Day held Nashville scoreless on just 3 hits and Hughie Jennings had 4
hits and 2 RBI as the Kansas City Cattle Barons outscored the Nashville
Commodores 5 to 0.

Day(4-4) was virtually untouchable. He allowed only 3 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.19 to 2.63. Kansas City managed 12 hits
in their victory.

Phil Niekro(1-5) was tagged with the loss. When questioned about his
counterpart after the game, Niekro was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious
very early on that we were going to be in for a long night. Day brought his
'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He
probably only made one or two bad pitches the entire game!
