The Continental League President's office announced that Chicago is shipping off Phil Rizzuto and "Old Hoss" Radbourne to Kansas City in exchange for Satchel Paige.

Eddie Plank allowed Pittsburgh's manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a
complete game at Forbes Field as the Washington Senators lost a heartbreaker
to Pittsburgh Grays by the score of 4 to 3.

The deciding run was scored by Pittsburgh in the bottom of the 9th. Willard
Brown laced a one-base hit. Roy Campanella stepped up to the plate and he
slapped a base-hit. Two outs later Ernie Lombardi came to the plate and was
walked intentionally. John Ward followed and he doubled making Pittsburgh
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Although they lost,
Washington did out-hit Pittsburgh 9 to 6.

Plank(3-3) finished the game allowing 3 runs in the victory. The loss was
charged to Chief Bender(0-3) in relief. 'I was a little good, a little bad
and a little ugly.' said Plank, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'

Walter Johnson had a strong outing and Ty Cobb lofted one into the 'cheap
seats' and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Liberty topped the New Orleans Jazz
Kings by a score of 7 to 0 at Dodger Stadium.

Cobb had a big day against New Orleans. He doubled plating a run in the 3rd
inning, popped a two-run clout over the fence in the 6th inning and stroked a
one-base hit in the 9th inning. Overall Philadelphia out-hit New Orleans 10
to 5.

Johnson(6-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. The losing
pitcher was Gaylord Perry(2-4). The Philadelphia ballclub's record now
stands at 19-15. With the loss, New Orleans has a record of 7-3 lately,
18-16 overall.

Ferguson Jenkins went 8 strong innings at Braves Field as the New York Knights
beat the Boston Pilgrims in 11 innings 6 to 3.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. New York came out on top in the 11th
inning. Billy Williams started the attack as he smashed a solo-shot out of
the park. Yogi Berra stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an
error. Lou Brock then lined a single. Three Finger Brown followed and he
laid down a sacrifice bunt. Home Run Baker stepped into the box and
delivered a one-base hit. Tony Lazzeri added his contribution to the rally
and grounded into a double play. New York took care of Boston with no
trouble in the bottom of the 11th.

Brown(2-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 innings. Sam
Streeter(3-3) was tagged with the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2
innings of work.

The Kansas City Cattle Barons edged the Nashville Commodores at Martin Park by
the score of 6 to 5.

Kansas City jumped on top of Nashville in the top of the 2nd inning when they
scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Frank Warfield
who disappointed the partisan crowd when he delivered a single plating two
runs. Kansas City totaled 10 hits on the night.

The winning pitcher was Juan Marichal(5-1) who allowed 3 runs in 7 innings.
Rollie Fingers earned the save, his 9th. Nip Winters(2-4) was the loser.

Dizzy Dean whiffed 10 batters as the Detroit Model Ts defeated the St. Louis
River Captains by a score of 3 to 0 at Terrapin Park.

Dean(3-5) simply dominated St. Louis. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Detroit finished with 7 hits in the
victory.

Bill Holland(2-4) absorbed the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 7 hits and
3 walks. Dean, when asked about his 10 strikeout performance noted, 'The
important thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do
our team? But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'

In a two run game the Chicago White Bears got by the Cincinnati Beergardeners
by the score of 4 to 2.

Dizzy Dismukes(1-0) was solid in relief, and he got credit for the win. He
surrendered no hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings improving his ERA from
4.34 to 4.05. Cincinnati went down quietly in the 9th.

Willie Powell(3-3) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 1 inning and
surrendered 2 hits and 1 walk.

Trade Notice - May 9th

The Federal League President's office has approved the trade of Jim Bunning from New Orleans to Philadelphia in exchange for Dave Malarcher and Ted Lyons.  Bunning is 3-3 with a 3.76 ERA.  Lyons is 1-3 with a 4.23 ERA.  Malarcher is a utility fielder who has yet to see playing time this season.

Kid Nichols tossed a complete game and Nap Lajoie had 2 base hits and 4 RBI as
the Washington Senators defeated the Pittsburgh Grays by a score of 7 to 4 at
Forbes Field.

Nichols(2-2) earned his pay with a solid performance for Washington. He went
9 innings surrendering 9 hits and 1 walk. Washington rapped out 15 hits for
the afternoon.

Christy Mathewson(2-4) was the losing pitcher. He allowed 11 hits and 1 walk
in 7 innings.

New Orleans did all the necessary damage in the 2nd inning when they tallied 5
runs on 6 hits. That early run support was enough for Jim Bunning(3-3) and
New Orleans. New Orleans managed 10 hits in their victory.

Dave Brown was credited with his 3rd save. Andy Cooper(6-2) ended up with the
loss. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings.

New Orleans now has a record of 18-15. With the loss, Philadelphia has a
record of 5-5 lately, 18-15 overall.

Eppa Rixey(3-3) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 4 hits in 7

Alec Radcliff had 2 base hits at Terrapin Park as the St. Louis River Captains
beat the Detroit Model Ts by the count of 6 to 5.

St. Louis brought 5 runs across the plate in the 6th inning. The critical
plate appearance was by Turkey Stearnes who electrified Terrapin Park when he
electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run. Detroit had a chance to
come back in the 9th but they came up short.

The win was credited to Tom Williams(3-3) who went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing
no runs. Williams got help from Roosevelt Davis who was credited with his 2nd
save. Webster McDonald(0-1) was charged with the loss in relief.

'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Detroit's manager said. 'We
did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'

The Kansas City Cattle Barons cruised to a 10 to 5 victory over the Nashville
Commodores at Martin Park.

Robin Roberts(4-5) struggled at times, but was good enough to get the victory.
He gave up 8 hits and no walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. Kansas City had 18
hits overall, while Nashville had 10.

Whitey Ford earned the save, his 4th. Phil Niekro(1-4) took the loss. He
allowed 5 runs and 6 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Joe McGinnity shut down the Cincinnati batters on just 3 hits at Schorling
Park as the Chicago White Bears beat the Cincinnati Beergardeners by the
count of 2 to 0.

McGinnity(4-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for
the Cincinnati batters. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 2 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.64 to 3.05. Cincinnati was retired
without difficulty in the 9th.

Ray Brown(2-4) ended up with the loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 4 hits
and 5 walks. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think
I'm hitting a good groove.' McGinnity said after the game. 'I'm ready to
start another game tomorrow!'

William Bell tossed a complete game at Forbes Field as the Washington Senators
beat the Pittsburgh Grays by the count of 10 to 1.

Newt Joseph had a big day against Pittsburgh. He stroked a single in the 2nd
inning, tripled plating two runs in the 3rd inning and tripled which scored a
run in the 9th inning. Washington finished with 16 hits in the victory.

Bell(2-5), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Eddie
Plank(2-3) suffered the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 6 runs
in 2 and 2/3 innings.

Tubby Scales smashed 2 homeruns and Pete Alexander pitched a complete game at
Dodger Stadium where the New Orleans Jazz Kings beat the Philadelphia Liberty
in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 3.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. Finally, New Orleans pulled the game out
in the 10th inning. Johnny Mize lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' making New
Orleans the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. New Orleans
totaled 7 hits on the night.

The victory went to Alexander(5-2) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. The
loss was charged to John Clarkson(2-2) in relief.

Center fielder Willie Mays homered and had 2 RBI at Braves Field where the
Boston Pilgrims beat the New York Knights in 10 innings 8 to 7.

The score was knotted at 7 after nine innings. Boston ended up winning it in
the 10th inning. Mays laced a base-knock. After an out was recorded, Aaron
swiped second base. Johnny Bench then drew a walk. Roberto Clemente was up
next and he doubled giving Boston the win and sending the home town fans into
a frenzy. Boston had 15 hits for the night while New York had 7.

Bob Gibson(1-5) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Tim
Keefe(3-5) was hit with the loss in relief. Boston now has a record of
15-17. With the loss, New York has a record of 3-7 lately, 13-19, worst in
the league overall.
